Jeremiah 22
God tells Jeremiah to prophecy that the ruin of Jerusalem was a result of having forsaken God and bowing down to serve other gods. Whenever we make anyone but Jesus Lord of our lives we place ourselves in jeopardy. Their pride and arrogance gave them a false sense of security. They thought they could live any way they wanted without consequence. The one who ultimately is decieved is the individual not God. I believe the Lord would have us observe and learn from this an invaluable lesson of the necessity of keeping things real in our relationship with God. Anyone is capable of self -deception. The antedote is to expose our lives to the Lord and His word daily so that the light of truth can shine on us and expose any hidden sin of pride or self service. Jesus quoted the law when he declared, "man cannot live by bread alone, but every word that procedes out of the mouth of God.
